California Assemblyman Mike Gatto has cancelled a hearing on his bill to regulate online poker in the US state, citing the lack of a clear consensus on the issue.

While the bill has been withdrawn, Gatto said it is not necessarily dead. Due to an urgency clause it can be resuscitated at any time, he explained, but it was the “right thing” to at least postpone the hearing.

“Over the past three years, I have met with representatives from nearly every software provider, card room, gaming tribe, racetrack, and internet-poker operator who has an opinion on the subject,” Gatto said.
