A New York Senator has introduced a new bill that would exempt any form of fantasy sports game from being classed as a contest of chance, potentially ending FanDuel and DraftKings’ battle to continue to operate in the state.

Senator Michael Ranzenhofer has introduced S06092, which proposes amending subdivision 1 of Section 225.00 of the State’s Penal Law, which defines a contest of chance, to indicate that fantasy or simulated sports games, educational games or contests shall not be considered a game of chance.

Ranzenhofer believes that fantasy sports is legal under the existing legislative framework and aims to protect the sector with the new bill.
