Australian Rules football club Melbourne FC has become the latest sports club to distance itself from sponsorships with sports betting companies after signing the state of Victoria’s responsible gambling charter.

The club has become the ninth in the Australian Football League (AFL) to sign the Victorian Responsible Gambling Foundation’s charter. It is the highest profile signatory from the state, alongside A-League team Melbourne Victory, the Melbourne Stars and Renegades from the Twenty20 cricket Big Bash League and more than 150 local sporting clubs also signing.
