Austrian lawmakers have this week approved an amended Gaming Act which they say offers greater protection to players and provides a more effective set of rules with which to combat illegal gambling.

The Council of Ministers approved the amendments Tuesday after more than a year of negotiations between the Austrian states, chamber of commerce, consumer protection organisations and sports bodies.
