The UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) has hit operator BGO Entertainment with a £300,000 fine for misleading advertising, as it steps up efforts to ensure licensees' promotions do not breach key regulatory conditions.

The fine is the first financial penalty imposed by the UKGC over advertising failings, with BGO found guilty of misleading advertising on its own and its affiliates' websites. The operator has also been warned over its future conduct.

The regulator said that the operator had "failed to take timely and effective action" to address breaches of the UKGC social responsibility code, and provided inaccurate assurances of the problem being addressed when notified of the issues.
