Ireland to consider lottery betting ban

Lawmakers in Ireland will consider a bill to prohibit betting on the outcome of the National Lottery in order to safeguarded funding for social causes.

Ireland's National Lottery contributes 28 per cent of sales to good causes, approximately €225m annually.

Fianna Fáil member Jim O'Callaghan introduced the National Lottery (Protection Of Central Fund) Bill on September 27th, warning that unregulated offshore bookmakers offering bets on the lottery pose a risk to the good cause fund.
