The Australian state of Tasmania has confirmed that the point of consumption tax on gambling which comes into force on January 1st, 2020, will be charged at 15 per cent of net revenue, prompting an outcry from the industry.

Tasmania first announced plans to introduce a point of consumption tax on betting in May so as to bring it in line with other Australian states, and has now set the rate at 15 per cent of net wagering revenue, excluding the face value of free bets.
