The Illinois Lottery has launched its first mobile lottery app, which is now available for free download on iOS and Android devices.

The app allows players to purchase tickets for Mega Millions, Powerball and Lotto draws, check winning numbers and jackpots, and also comes with a store locator, allowing users to find nearby retailers using their phone’s geolocation feature.

The app also includes responsible gaming information to let players view messages about responsible gameplay and set spending limits, as well as information on counselling and the number of a self-exclusion hotline.

The launch of the app is in response to the fact that mobile users represent 44.4 per cent of Illinois Lottery website visits.

The lottery has been privately managed by Northstar Lottery Group, a consortium of best-in-class companies with more than 50 years combined experience in Illinoi, since September 2010.

Northstar is led by a partnership between GTECH Corporation and Scientific Games Corporation, which provide the software and technology to power the offering.

The Illinois lottery became the first in the US to introduce online ticket sales in March 2012.
