US gaming and lottery supplier Scientific Games has been awarded a new eight-year contract to provide its instant games solutions to the North Carolina Education Lottery.

The state lottery, which has only been in operation since 2005, will take on the supplier’s Cooperative Services Program (CSP) and instant game management as part of the deal. The contract can be further extended by the lottery for an additional two years.

The CSP agreement includes instant game design, security and manufacturing, marketing services, inside sales, warehousing and distribution.

Currently, instant games represent two-thirds of the North Carolina Education Lottery's revenue.

"Scientific Games is a proven instant game partner to the North Carolina Education Lottery,” said Alice Garland, executive director of the North Carolina Education Lottery. “The growth potential and efficiencies created by our new CSP partnership will enable us to optimize the player and retailer experience and ultimately, the winners will be our state's educational programs."

According to Scientific Games, there were 11 US state lotteries utilising its CSP service last year, which delivered 50 per cent higher average sales for instant games per lottery retailer, and more than $1bn in combined growth in the instant product category.

“We are continually advancing the secure technologies in our CSP solution and will apply these technologies, along with our global insights on instant category management, to help the North Carolina Education Lottery continue their track record of growth in year-over-year instant game sales and profit each year since the Lottery began,” added John Schulz, senior vice president, global instant products for Scientific Games.

Shares in Scientific Games Corporation (Co. Data) (NASDAQ:SGMS) closed in New York Wednesday up 4.76 per cent at $9.47 per share.
