The New York Lottery has generated sales of $9.67bn in its most recent financial year, including a record performance from video lottery terminals (VLTs).

It is the second highest sales figure in the lottery's history, just behind last year's record $9.68bn, helping the lottery distribute $3.27bn to all school districts in the state.

"As the New York Lottery celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, it's fitting that the numbers prove that New Yorkers continue to support the continent's most profitable lottery," said Gweneth Dean, director of the New York State Gaming Commission's Division of the Lottery.
