China's ministry of finance published new regulations this week for the management of lotteries, inserting a clause to specifically prohibit the sale of lottery products via the internet without authorisation.

The ministry said that efforts in recent years to combat unauthorised lottery sales via the internet and mobile devices had contributed to the strong development of the Chinese lottery market, but noted that "activities such as arbitrarily commissioning or developing online sales of lotteries via website platforms or clients are still occuring".
