US Attorney General William Barr has filed a memorandum in the district court of New Hampshire, claiming that the 2018 Department of Justice Opinion on the Wire Act did not address lotteries and their vendors.

The 2018 Opinion reversed the DOJ’s 2011 Opinion that certain provisions of the Wire Act only applied to sports betting, throwing a wrench in states’ plans to offer online wagering and prompting a legal challenge led by the New Hampshire Lottery Commission.
