The British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) is rolling out a non-mandatory time and budgeting tool for customers of its land-based gaming venues across the Canadian province.

The PlayPlanner tool is being introduced in every casino and community gaming centre in British Columbia as part of BCLC’s commitment to encouraging positive play and informed decision-making.

PlayPlanner works with BCLC’s Encore Rewards programme and allows members to set daily time and money limits when playing slots or electronic table games.

It does not prevent users from exceeding the pre-set limits, but rather encourages them to stay within the amount they intended, with players receiving reminders on how they are tracking against their settings through onscreen pop-up messages during each game session.

“We’ve created PlayPlanner to make it easier for players to stay within personal limits by making decisions about time and money before gambling,” said Dr. Jamie Wiebe, BCLC Director of Player Health.

“We are committed to ensuring that this tool meets the needs of our players now and into the future as part of our focus on supporting healthy play.”

BCLC has provided its online customers with pre-commitment tools since 2004.
