The UK’s Competition Commission has given its approval for Rank Group to acquire Gala Casinos after finding a buyer for the licence Rank holds to operate a casino in Edinburgh.

Last month, Rank entered into a revised conditional agreement to acquire 19 casinos and three non-operating licences from Gala Coral for a total cash consideration of £179m.

This followed a final report published by the Competition Commission (CC) which found that the merger would damage competition in five areas of the UK, but said that the transaction would be permitted as long as the casinos in Aberdeen, Stockton-on-Tees, Bristol and Cardiff were not included.
