The merger of Ladbrokes and Gala Coral is soon to be completed after the UK's Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) gave the deal final approval to go ahead.

The merger, first announced in July last year, is now expected to be finalised "in the very near future," the operators say.

The CMA has given the deal its blessing after approving the new entity's plans to sell off 360 betting shops, in order to avoid a reduction in competition in certain areas of the UK and Ireland.
