The Court of Justice of the European Union said Thursday that OPAP’s monopoly over games of chance and betting in Greece is incompatible in its current form with European law, describing the Greek government’s supervision of OPAP as “merely superficial”.
The judgement of Europe’s highest court is the result of a referral from the Greek courts, where British gaming operators Stanleybet, William Hill and Sportingbet had challenged their exclusion from the market.
