International Game Technology (IGT) has signed an exclusive partnership with US casino games developer Action Gaming to develop video poker games for its online and land-based businesses.

IGT will acquire a number of patents from Action Gaming, which are used in the supplier’s products including All-Star Poker, Ultimate X Poker and Hyper Bonus Poker.

The patents will be used for the development of new video poker products, including variants for iGaming customers and free-to-play games for use in the supplier’s social casino subsidiary DoubleDown Casino.

IGT has worked with Action Gaming for a number of years, launching the land-based Triple Play Draw Poker game in 1998.

The supplier’s vice president of game development and global product management Joe Sigrist commented that IGT had established an “outstanding” partnership with Action Gaming that had provided land-based venues with some of their highest-earning games.

“This new agreement propels our creation and development of best-in-class content for casinos, for wager online, and in the social environment for IGT's DoubleDown Casino,” Sigrist explained.

Action Gaming owner Ernie Moody said he was confident that the sale of the patents would allow IGT to maintain its market-leading position in video poker.

“We are very proud of the popular and high revenue producing games we've created for the industry and especially of the successful partnership we've enjoyed with IGT,” Moody added.

Action Gaming also owns the popular US-facingn video poker free-to-play brand Videopoker.com, which now has approximately 315,000 members.
