UK advertising watchdog the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has banned an advert promoting Gibraltar-based online bookmaker Coral Interactive which was found to link gambling and seduction.

The TV ad showed two men reading the Racing Post in a barber’s shop and discussing placing a bet, before a woman wearing a jockey outfit with a cropped top and knee-high boots walked in. All men in the barber’s shop were distracted by the women’s presence, while the voiceover stated: “Get ready for today’s great offer.”

The woman then tapped one man’s phone with a riding crop, prompting him to place a bet through Coral’s sports betting app, before she tapped a TV with the crop to turn it on and show a horse race. The voiceover then stated: “Go on, stick one on it.”

The ad prompted a complaint from an individual who queried whether it was in breach of the UK Code of Broadcast Advertising because it linked gambling to seduction.
