British bookmaker Coral has signed a deal to serve as the official main sponsor of rugby league club Wigan Warriors for the 2015 Super League season.
Under the terms of the agreement, the operator’s first with a rugby league side, Coral will serve as the shirt sponsor for the team, with its logo displayed on Wigan Warriors’ home and away playing and replica kits. Coral branding will also appear on LED advertising boards at all of the club’s home games.
Wigan Warriors sales director Geoff Warburton commented: “We are ecstatic to be welcoming such a distinguished company as Coral into the Wigan Club and the sport of Rugby League.
“As a forward thinking company, Coral have adapted to the online betting market exceptionally well and are exactly the kind of organisation that will help drive the brand of Wigan Rugby League forward,” he explained.
Warburton went on to say that with Coral’s retail estate of 1,800 shops and millions of online customers, the team would receive exposure on a wider scale than ever before.
“We hope that this is the beginning of a long and fruitful relationship for both parties,” he added.
Wigan Warriors is the world’s most successful rugby league club with the biggest fan base in the UK.
Coral Interactive marketing director Matt Prevost said that rugby league had a dedicated and passionate fan base, including a number of avid bettors, so the sponsorship deal “makes a lot of sense.”
“The Coral online business is enjoying sector-leading growth and sports sponsorships like this exciting venture with Wigan Warriors are an important factor in delivering that success,” he said.
To promote the new partnership, Coral will offer special bets on the team, including special odds on Wigan winning the Super League Grand Final and star winger Josh Charnley being the top regular season try scorer.
