Betfair has named former England rugby captain Lawrence Dallaglio and former Ireland captain Keith Wood as its new brand ambassadors ahead of today's start of the 2015 Rugby World Cup.
The pair will feature in exclusive video content debating the tournament’s key events and making predictions on the event’s outright winners.
Both Dallaglio and Wood are seen as rugby legends. Dallaglio captained his country between 1997 and 1999 and won the World Cup in 2003, while Wood earned 58 caps for Ireland, which he captained between 1996 and 2003. The pair also played together for the British and Irish Lions on a number of occasions.
“I’m really pleased to have the opportunity to work with Betfair during this year’s World Cup, it’s an exciting time and it’s great to be working alongside my old Lions teammate again,” Dallaglio said.
“I was lucky enough to be part of the World Cup winning side in 2003 so the tournament holds a lot of very special memories for me which I’m looking forward to sharing throughout this project.”
Wood added that he was thrilled to be working with Betfair during the World Cup.
“Having played in three world cups, I can say that this one certainly has the potential be the best one yet and is easily one of the most competitive since its inauguration in 1987,” he said.
Betfair’s head of media, PR and sponsorship Stephen Mault said he was delighted to have two rugby heroes working with Betfair for the tournament.
“They will provide our customers with a truly unique insight into both the sport and the tournament itself, having taken part in six between them,” Mault explained. “We’re looking forward to seeing what the tournament has in store for us and our new ambassadors will have plenty to say as the drama unfolds.”
The tournament begins with a match between England and Fiji at Twickenham Stadium in London on Friday September 18th.
