Online gaming operator Betway has paid out a potential world record amount to a UK customer who won an online slots jackpot playing Microgaming’s Mega Moolah game last week.

The 26-year old from Cheshire, named as Jon Heywood, won a £13,213,838.68 jackpot on last Tuesday, having deposited a total of £30 and placing 25p bets.

Betway claimed that the amount is set to be a world record, using last week’s euro-to-pound exchange rage of €1.3531.

This would make the jackpot equate to €17,879,645.12, slightly higher than the previous world record of €17,861,813 paid out to a customer in January 2013 through NetEnt’s Mega Fortuna Touch game.

“We couldn’t be happier for Jon – he’s an incredibly nice guy and his family will benefit immensely from his huge win,” said Betway spokesman Alan Alger.

“It just shows that the biggest prizes can be won from the smallest stakes – Mega Moolah has really lived up to its name.”
