Central European betting operator Fortuna Entertainment has signed a multi-year deal to become an official sponsor of the Romania's national football team, further strengthening its presence in the newly-regulated market.

The agreement with the Romanian Football Federation (Federația Română de Fotbal) runs for four years, and follows a slew of recent acquisitions of Romanian-focused businesses by the company.

This includes Hattrick Sports Group's Casa Pariurilor – the leading betting operator in the country - and Fortbet's Bet Active Concept, Bet Zone, Public Slots and Slot Arena. Fortuna already operates more than 750 betting shops across Romania, as well as the licensed iGaming site efortuna.ro.

"Through this partnership we aim to contribute to the development of Romanian football, which is one of the most popular sports in Romania," said Fortuna CEO Per Widerstrom. "Fortuna's belief is that football and all those involved in this field, including supporters, have the power to improve the sport and to maintain its integrity."

As part of the agreement, Fortuna will launch a dedicated platform at nationala.efortuna.ro to provide unique betting options for Romanian bettors on matchdays. This coincides with Romania's game against Denmark in a qualifier for the 2018 World Cup next week.

The deal adds to Fortuna's portfolio of football sponsorships which also include the Czech Football Association, Polish club Legia Warsaw, and Slovakia's Super League (now renamed the Fortuna League).

Shares in Fortuna Entertainment Group NV (Co. Data) (PRA:FOREG) were trading down by 2.39 per cent at CZK104.15 per share in Prague earlier Wednesday.
