Kenyan betting operator SportPesa will terminate all sport sponsorship agreements in its home market next year following the introduction of a 35 per cent tax rate on all gambling activities.

The company said the prohibitively high tax rate, up from 7.5 per cent previously, meant that there would be no funds available to finance sports, leading it to notify Kenyan clubs and unions of its plans to withdraw all sponsorship from January 1st, 2018.
