Britain’s Sportech plc could be in for an £80m windfall after a tribunal ruled in favour of the company in its four year battle with the UK’s tax authority.
The dispute dates back to April 2009 when Sportech submitted a claim to Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC) for the repayment of overpaid value-added tax (VAT) relating to its 'Spot the Ball' game offered from 1979 to 1996, which the company claims was paid in error.
