Telecoms body files challenge against Quebec internet blocking plans

Québec’s new law requiring internet service providers to block access to unlicensed gambling sites is facing its second major legal challenge.

The Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association (CWTA) has followed the country’s Public Interest Advocacy Centre (PIAC) in attempting to have the law overturned by Canada’s Superior Court.

Passed in November 2015, Bill 74 includes language that gives Société des loteries du Québec (Loto Québec), operator of the Espacejeux.com site, the power to compile a list of unlicensed iGaming sites.
