London-listed operator Betfair Group has appointed chief operating officer Mark Brooker as an executive director of the business, with the new role effective from June 1st.

Brooker has been with Betfair since March 2010. He joined as managing director of its sportsbook division and was promoted to corporate development director, before being promoted to his current role of chief operating officer in April last year.

As executive director he will remain based in Dublin and continue to hold the COO role, with managerial responsibility for all non-US operations.

Before joining Betfair he spent 17 years working in the investment banking sector, advising UK companies on equity capital raising and mergers & acquisitions. During this time he worked for the likes of Morgan Stanley and Merrill Lynch.

He becomes the operator’s first executive director, serving alongside chairman Gerald Corbett; chief executive Breon Corcoran; chief financial officer Alex Gersh; senior independent director Ian Dyson and independent non-executive directors Leo Quinn, Peter Jackson, Zillah Byng-Maddick and Peter Rigby.

Shares in Betfair Group plc (Co.Data) (LSE:BET) were trading down 0.04 per cent at 2,676.00 pence per share in London this morning.
