Playtech has strengthened its Sports management team with three high-profile hires as the division prepares to deliver a number of omni-channel projects and integrate recently-acquired Best Gaming Technology (BGT).

The operator has hired Richard Andrew from the Hong Kong Jockey Club as chief operating officer for Playtech Sports, with Danny Angus joining from OpenBet to serve as the division’s chief technology officer.

The company has also named Eoin Redmond as sportsbook product director, a role he will take up on October 1st after leaving Paddy Power Betfair.

Playtech Sports’ new COO Richard Andrew is a twenty-year veteran of the sports betting industry, most recently serving as executive head of betting & customer strategic projects for the Hong Kong Jockey Club. He previously served as trading, product and services director at Ladbrokes.

CTO Danny Angus joins from OpenBet, where he served as product director with responsibility for the supplier’s in-venue technology until July this year.

Eoin Redmond has served as lead product manager for exchange and sportsbook at Betfair, with previous roles at IBM and Full Tilt.

The trio join as Playtech’s strategic advisor Ian Chuter prepares to leave the company after twelve months. Chuter, the former Betfair and William Hill COO, will leave the business on October 31st to join the newly merged Ladbrokes Coral as chief operating officer of its digital business.

Chuter's remit was to review the overall Playtech Sports offering and consolidate its various sports subsidiaries into a single organisation, as well as overseeing the hiring of the management team.

“Ian has done a first-class job during his time with us and delivered exactly what we asked; a stronger, consolidated sports business that is capable of delivering the best omni-channel technology offering with the industry’s best talent on board to deliver and implement this across large-scale projects,” Playtech CEO Mor Weizer said.

“The three appointments we have made align with our strategic vision for Playtech Sports and our Playtech ONE technology of creating a simple and intuitive experience for customers as well as creating an opportunity to extend beyond online and mobile and into further retail opportunities.

“On behalf of the Playtech Group management team I would like to thank Ian for his significant contribution over the last 12 months and look forward to continuing to work with him as we continue to deliver excellent results for both Ladbrokes and Coral,” Weizer added.

Playtech has also announced that Peter Greberg has been promoted to technical director and leader of Playtech Sports’ operations in Malmo, Sweden.

The new team will be responsible for delivering a number of large-scale omni-channel products under the Playtech ONE brand, including a solution for Eastern European operator Fortuna Group.

Shares in Playtech plc. (Co. Data) (LSE:PTEC) were trading marginally higher in London Thursday shortly after the announcement at 897.50 pence per share.
