Amaya's Rational Group has added Bo Wänghammar to the company's management team, bringing in the former CEO of Mr Green as managing director of PokerStars Casino.

Wänghammar is to join Rational Group on February 1st, taking charge of the operator's growing online casino business, reporting directly to Amaya CEO Rafi Ashkenazi.

He joins after just under a year as business development director for Mr Green & Co, having taken on that role in April last year when he was replaced by Jesper Kärrbrink as CEO of Mr Green's Malta-based operational division. Wänghammar spent two years in that role, having been appointed in January 2014.

"We believe Bo is a great addition to Rational Group's senior management team," Ashkenazi said. "Not only does he have great experience in growing an online casino brand from the ground up, but he has management talent across a range of industries."

It is unclear whether the previous casino chief Sam Hobcraft, who had held the role since 2013, has left the company or taken on a new role within the business.

PokerStars Casino has been growing strongly since its launch, with Amaya recently revealing that combined sports betting and casino revenue climbed 114 per cent to $183.9m for the nine month period ended September 30th 2016. The bulk of this total was generated from the casino offering.

Wänghammar said he was looking forward to taking PokerStars Casino to "the next level of growth."

"As one of the largest and fastest growing online casinos in the world, PokerStars Casino has great potential which I'm eager to deliver on," he said.

Shares in Amaya Inc (Co.Data) (TSX:AYA) closed down 1.92 per cent at CAD$18.88 per share in Toronto Tuesday.
