Stockholm-listed gaming operator Betsson has named acting general counsel Abby Cosgrave as the company's new vice president of legal.

Cosgrave replaces Martin Thorvaldsson in the role, which will also see her serve as general counsel for the operator's Betsson Malta subsidiary.

She has worked for Betsson since 2014, joining as legal counse before taking over Thorvaldsson's duties when he stepped down in September 2016.

Cosgrave, who also joins Betsson's management team, has previously served as in-house counsel for NBC Universal Networks International and clothing retailer JD Sports Fashion.

"With the increased regulatory complexity in the gaming market, legal affairs is a business critical issue," Betsson AB president and chief executive Ulrik Bengtsson said.

"Abby has vast experience from the gaming and leisure industry and also a comprehensive understanding of Betsson. Her contribution to the business since she joined Betsson has been very valuable. I look forward to continuing working with Abby."

Shares in Betsson AB (Co.Data) (STO:BETS-B) were trading down 0.19 per cent at SEK77.35 per share in Stockholm early Tuesday.
