Stockholm-listed gaming operator Cherry has confirmed the departure of Jonas Wåhlander as managing director of the company’s B2C division ComeOn Malta.

Wåhlander had been brought in from Universal Sony Pictures to head up the online gaming business unit in December 2015, but he has now stepped down from his position.
Cherry explained that a new management team with “extensive experience” would now be in charge of taking the ComeOn! business to the next level.

“The integration process in our Online Gaming business area has reached a point where we now want to intensify our growth ambitions and further strengthen ComeOn!’s market position,” said Cherry CEO Anders Holmgren. “Following a period of internal focus, it is time to take advantage of the strength that exists within the company.”

Holmgren said that the company has begun recruiting for a new managing director to replace Wåhlander, and confirmed that the new management team would comprise several people with experience from ComeOn! from the company’s inception.

“They will take the company to the next level in terms of earnings and market focus,” continued Holmgren. “The fact that several of them are also shareholders in Cherry AB will benefit development.”

Shares in Cherry AB (Co. Data) (STO:CHER) were trading down 1.32 per cent at SEK56.00 per share in Stockholm earlier Thursday.
