German gaming giant Gauselmann Group has hired former Lotto-Toto Sachsen-Anhalt chief executive Klaus Scharrenberg for a new business development role.

Scharrenberg served as as chief executive of the state lottery for almost five year, prior to which he spent almost 25 years leading the legal department at NordWest Lotto Schleswig-Holstein

His new position at Gauselmann will see Scharrenberg assume responsibility for business development within the lottery industry.

"Klaus Scharrenberg is a recognized expert on the German gambling market," Gauselmann chief executive Armin Gauselmann said. "He will support us in successfully promoting various national and international projects."

Commenting on his new role, Scharrenberg  said: "I am really looking forward to a new environment, many new colleagues and many exciting projects. After 30 years in the lottery industry, it was certainly not the easiest decision to make, but provides a new challenge."
