Daily fantasy sports operator FanDuel has handed chief financial officer Andy Giancamilli the role of chief operating officer, while the company's co-founder and chief product officer Tom Griffiths has left the business.

Giancamilli will continue as CFO in addition to taking on the COO role, overseeing FanDuel's financial operations and corporate financing as well as the company's strategy. He will work alongside Matt King, who took over as FanDuel CEO in November following the departure of co-founder Nigel Eccles.

"There is incredible momentum across the sports tech industry with new opportunities and innovations on the horizon for FanDuel," said Giancamilli. "I am excited to work with Matt King again as we continue to steer the company toward the future and look to taking FanDuel to new heights."

Since joining FanDuel in 2015, Giancamilli has taken on a number of roles including executive vice president of revenue, CRM and product operations, where he was responsible for growing FanDuel's revenue through various initiatives. Prior to FanDuel, he worked for toy retailer Toys R Us and global consultancy McKinsey & Company.

In addition to Giancamilli's appointment, FanDuel has also announced that Tom Griffiths, one of the company's original co-founders and chief product officer, has departed to work on a new artificial intelligence start-up.

Griffiths has played a crucial role in developing FanDuel's offering, overseeing its product roadmap, strategy and development since 2007. He is the man behind the design, development and launch of FanDuel's website and mobile apps, as well as innovations such as Friends Mode and NBA InPlay.

"It has been an honor to help build and lead a world-class product development organization at FanDuel," Griffith said. "Being a part of this industry has been an incredible journey, and I am extremely proud of what we have created. I cannot wait to see what Andy, Matt and rest of the amazingly talented team have in store."

King commented: "Tom was a valued leader at FanDuel - this product would not be where it is today without him. We know Tom will be successful in all of his future endeavors, and Andy is the right person to take on the opportunities that we have in front of us."
