Daily fantasy sports operator FanDuel has hired Mike Raffensperger, former head of marketing at Amazon, as its new chief marketing officer.

Raffensperger will oversee all FanDuel marketing efforts as well as developing new growth strategies for the business.

He joins the company from Amazon where he served for just over 18 months, leading an initiative pairing live and on-demand video with ecommerce. Prior to this he served as director of digital marketing and strategy for broadcast satellite provider DIRECTV, handling all digital communications for the launch of the National Football League's first streaming subscription service.

"With extensive experience in digital media and marketing and a growth mindset, Mike is the right person to join our team as the sports and entertainment industry continues to evolve," FanDuel chief executive Matt King said.

"Mike's leadership efforts in previous roles have helped reshape the digital sports media landscape and I look forward to having him on board as we continue to grow the FanDuel brand and build it into a preeminent sports entertainment destination."

Raffensperger is the first new hire under chief executive King, who took over from co-founder Nigel Eccles in November 2017. King has also promoted the company's chief financial officer Andy Giancamilli to the role of chief operating officer, while another co-founder, Tom Griffiths, has left the business.
