Daily fantasy sports (DFS) operator DraftKings is moving into the real-money sports betting market with the appointment of industry executive Sean Hurley to lead the project.
As DraftKings' first head of sportsbook, Hurley will help to build, launch and grow the sports betting business, reporting to DraftKings co-founder and chief revenue officer Matt Kalish.
He will be based at DraftKings' newly-opened office in Hoboken, New Jersey.
He has also worked as a commercial manager for sports and media business IMG, as head of gaming for Whale Global, and as financial controller for BetClearer, the parent company of betting concierge BetButler.
The launch of DraftKings sports betting business in the US is dependent on a positive Supreme Court verdict in the case of Christie vs the National Collegiate Athletic Association, DraftKings noted.
Commenting on Hurley's appointment, Matt Kalish said: "Sean brings a wealth of gaming experience to DraftKings and furthers our ability to be a leader in the sports betting market."
