Gibraltar-based online betting and gaming operator BetVictor has appointed the co-founder and former chief executive of Inspired Entertainment, Luke Alvarez, as its new chairman.

Alvarez assumes his new role on December 1st, focused on the company’s consumer protection, regulatory and compliance programmes. He will also provide strategic direction to further build on BetVictor’s success.

He brings a wealth of experience to BetVictor's board, having founded Inspired in 2001 and led the company for almost twenty years. He left Inspired in May.

BetVictor said that Alvarez is joining the company during a continued period of growth, driven by investments in its mobile sportsbook and online gaming product suite.

“We are delighted to welcome Luke to our board,” said BetVictor chief executive Andreas Meinrad. “It’s an important time for BetVictor as we continue to evolve and expand, and the strong skills and experience Luke brings are vital to help us taking our strategy and product development to the next level.

“Luke has played a key role in the growth of several international technology and gaming companies and we believe that his knowledge and expertise will drive the BetVictor brand forward as we strengthen our customer protection focus and continue to grow as a business.”

Alvarez said of his new role: “It’s an exciting time to be joining BetVictor. The company has strong industry-leading, in-house technology capabilities that are paving the way in the highly competitive mobile sports and gaming space. I look forward to working with Andreas and the board to help drive the company’s success.”
