Casino games provider Leander has appointed Karl Grech to head up its new Malta office.

Grech joins the supplier from Toronto-listed fantasy sports provider Global Daily Fantasy Sports (GDFS), and was previously part of the Chartwell Games team acquired by Amaya Gaming (now The Stars Group) and then by NYX Gaming Group (now SG Digital).

He will be based in Leander’s new Malta office in Sliema, which will become the supplier’s European gaming hub.

The company has applied for a license from the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA), with the regulator allowing a continuance in the meantime through the supplier’s UK license.

“We decided to make Malta our European HQ and have recently opened an office to be the base of our planned expansion following recent deals,” said Leander chief executive Steven Matsell. “We are delighted that someone with Karl’s experience and knowledge has decided to join us in this next major phase for the company.”

Prior to joining GDFS, Grech was commercial director at NYX, responsible for Malta and the Nordic region. He also served as head of account management at Amaya.

“Leander is well-established and has adventurous expansion plans and I am very excited to be joining and building a commercial team to support the strategy,” said Grech. “Hopefully I will be adding a few new customers along the way.”
