London-listed betting and gaming operator Flutter Entertainment has strengthened its board with the appointment of Andrew Higginson as an independent non-executive director.

Higginson is currently chair of Wm Morrison Supermarkets, the UK’s fourth largest supermarket chain, a position he has held since January 2015.

He is also the chair of Evergreen Garden Care Limited and a non-executive director of South African retailer Woolworths Holdings.

Higginson previously served as an executive director at supermarket chain Tesco for 15 years and as chair of Poundland Group and N Brown Group. He was also a senior independent director of Sky and a non-executive director of the Rugby Football Union.

Commenting on his appointment, Flutter Entertainment chair Gary McGann said: “We are delighted to welcome Andrew as a non-executive director. He brings an extensive wealth of board, commercial, retail and leadership experience to the board.”

Shares in Flutter Entertainment plc (LSE:FLTR) were trading up 15.40 per cent at 8,810.00 pence per share in London, after the company’s announced a proposed merger with The Stars Group Wednesday morning.
