Sun Bingo owner News UK has appointed former Cashcade and Gaming Realms founder Simon Collins to the new role of managing director of betting and gaming.

Collins has been brought in to oversee the development and growth of News UK’s gaming brands, including fantasy football league Dream Team, Sun Bingo and the Sun Racing affiliate app.

Collins has more than 25 years’ experience in the gaming industry, having founded online bingo business Cashcade, which was sold to bwin.party digital entertainment (now GVC) in July 2009.

He also co-founded London-listed Gaming Realms, developing the company’s real-money gaming business, which was sold to River iGaming earlier this year. Collins stepped down from the Gaming Realms’ board last month.

In his new role with News UK, Collins will report into Wireless CEO Scott Taunton, who holds executive responsibility for News UK’s betting and gaming brands.

The Sun’s betting and gaming director Tom Ustunel, as well as sports commercial partnerships director Gareth Williams, will both report to Collins.

“There are few more experienced players in the online gaming space than Simon Collins,” said Taunton. “He has a history of building audiences and value around brilliant digital gaming brands. And he joins News UK as we embark on the next phase of growth around our iconic gaming brands, including Dream Team, Sun Bingo and Sun Racing.”

Commenting on his appointment, Collins said: “I am particularly excited to take up this new role as I believe there are a number of opportunities to develop the existing business. I’m looking forward to working with what I know is a very talented team, across some of the UK’s biggest brands.”
