Dutch land-based and online gaming operator Janshen-Hahnraths Group is streamlining its operations with the loss of more than 100 jobs.

Following a downturn at its land-based Fair Play Casinos in recent years, the company is restructuring its head office in Kerkrade and changing the operating model of its venues.

As a result, 106 jobs are expected to be lost, with employees at the head office and the casinos informed of the decision last week.

“It is expected that a smaller – but better streamlined – organisation will allow us to respond more effectively to the market in which Janshen-Hahnraths Group is active,” said the company. “The shareholders of Janshen-Hahnraths Group regret that the management had to make this decision, but endorse the necessity of it.

“Various external market developments are the basis for this proposed decision. This includes amended legislation and the recent increases in gambling tax. In addition, the prolonged closure of the casinos due to Covid19 and the sharply increased wage and operating costs have also had a negative impact on the results of Janshen-Hahnraths Group.”

In operation for more than 60 years, Janshen-Hahnraths operates 27 Fair Play Casinos in the Netherlands and was among the first licensees to secure approval to launch in the regulated Dutch iGaming market in 2021 under the Fairplay.nl domain.

Last October the company appointed Michiel Nubé as its new CEO to replace Jan Schiffelers, who had served in the role for more than twenty years.
