ECJ finds Italian licensing system discriminatory

Following another victory at the European Court of Justice on Thursday, British bookmaker Stanleybet has criticised the European Commission’s “premature” decision to close infringement proceedings against Italy in 2010, stating that political considerations should not be allowed to overtake EU law.

Following the Gambelli and Placanica rulings, Thursday’s ECJ decision recognises for the third time that Stanleybet was discriminated against by the Italian licensing system.
