German sports betting license approval process questioned

European betting operators have expressed serious doubts about Germany’s recently launched online sports betting license approval procedure, with one industry association describing the process as a “prevention procedure”.

The criticism follows the low key launch of the license approval procedure on August 8th by the Hessen Ministry of Interior, which has been designated as the responsible licensing authority for 14 of the 16 Bundesländer (excluding Schleswig Holstein and North Rhine-Westphalia).
