The Problem Gambling Help Network of West Virginia (PGHNWV) has teamed up with CHESS Health to launch a new app to support people struggling with gambling addiction.

The PGHNWV has debuted a customised version of the Connections recovery app, which has been specifically designed for gambling-related issues for the first time.

The app offers 24/7 crisis support, virtual support meetings, and moderated peer communities, as well as daily check-ins and educational content. The app also has the 1-800-GAMBLER hotline integrated into it, alongside dedicated forums for gambling-related support.

The health network said that the launch of the app will fill a gap in West Virginia, where in-person support such as Gamblers Anonymous meetings is limited.

The initiative is led by the PGHNWV’s parent organisation, First Choice Services, which has been working with CHESS Health for the past five years on digital tools for substance use disorder recovery.

“We’ve seen how the Connections app helps people recovering from substance use. Now we’re offering similar support for those affected by gambling,” said Sheila Moran, director of communications at First Choice.

Hans Morefield, CEO of CHESS Health, added: “This partnership gives people a way to access help whenever they need it. It’s a step toward better support for individuals and communities affected by gambling.”
