The Remote Gambling Association has unveiled a new video to be broadcast at the Annual General Meeting of GamCare today in London, which is intended to draw attention to the steps taken by online gambling operators to protect consumers.
The RGA said the video was designed to provide players and policymakers with information on the technologies and procedures that remote gambling operators employ to create an environment for responsible gambling, such as age-verification procedures, deposit limits and self-exclusion options.
“It is always difficult for policymakers to understand the online industry when approaching the subject for the first time, we hope our five minute tutorial will provide them with a quick insight into how operators ensure that for the vast majority, gambling remains a safe and harmless leisure activity,” said RGA Chief Executive, Clive Hawkswood.
To mark the Responsible Gambling Awareness Day on 19 October, the RGA has also made a £10,000 donation to Gambling Therapy (GT), the free international online service for those adversely affected by gambling.
Kevin Farrell-Roberts, CEO of Gordon Moody Association, added: “Gambling Therapy is entering an exciting new phase of its development. The donation we have just received from the RGA has been pivotal in providing the security we needed to move to a new call centre from which we will be launching a 24/7 service, structured self help programmes and a dedicated support service for parents and carers of adolescent problem gamblers and gamers.”
Farrell-Roberts added however that there is still a great deal of work to do to achieve the joint aim of the RGA and GT to make gambling as safe as possible for both the player and the operator.
Gordon Moody Association, which operates the Gambling Therapy help service, has been providing support and treatment to people suffering from acute gambling addiction for over thirty years.
