Sega Networks, the mobile publishing division of the Japanese video games giant, has launched a new social slots app featuring characters from some of the company's most iconic games.

The free-to-play Sega Slots is now available worldwide via Apple's App Store and the Google Play Store, and is described as harking back to Sega's inception as a slot machine developer in the 1940s.

It features Vegas-style slots based on some of Sega's most popular titles, including Sonic the Hedgehog, Super Monkey Ball, Golden Axe and Shinobi, featuring vibrant graphics and fast-paced gameplay.

Each also comes with bonus rounds that reflect the gameplay of the original titles. In the Sonic slot, players have to help the hedgehog rescue his friends to win huge payouts, while Super Monkey Ball features a multiplayer mode paying out big banana bonuses.

The app will be regularly updated with new, unlockable machines based on classic Sega games to keep players engaged.
