Ohio’s plans to introduce 17,500 video lottery terminals (VLTs) across the state moved a step closer this week after Governor John Kasich signed an executive order allowing the lottery commission’s rules to take effect immediately, some three months ahead of schedule.

Ohio’s seven horse racing permit holders will be allowed to apply for a $50m ten-year sales agent licence to operate a VLT facility, after Governor Kasich initiated a comprehensive review earlier this year of the state’s laws for horse racing, the Ohio Lottery and casino gaming.
