European governments have agreed a resolution that threatens the future of in-play betting.

The resolution seeks to establish measures to protect the integrity of sporting events and opens the way for the development of a legally-binding convention and the possible implementation of restrictions on the type of bets that licensed operators are able to offer.

UEFA President Michel Platini, speaking at the Council of Europe event in Belgrade shortly before the resolution was agreed, urged Ministers to adopt an international convention to address “an evil that is destroying the glorious uncertainty of sport, namely online-betting-related match fixing”.
