The UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has launched an official merger inquiry into the proposed acquisition of IMG Arena by Sportradar.

The CMA inquiry will begin today (1 September) and a final decision is due by 24 October.

This probe follows a two-week consultation process which concluded on 25 July, during which the CMA evaluated whether the transaction would result in a substantial lessening of competition in the United Kingdom.

Once the inquiry ends, the CMA will decide whether to refer the merger for a more in-depth investigation, or allow the deal to proceed.

Sportradar agreed a deal with Endeavor Group in March to acquire IMG ARENA and its global sports betting rights portfolio.

Shares in Sportradar Group AG (NASDAQ:SRAD) closed 1.24 per cent lower at $30.94 per share in New York Friday.
