Brazil’s Prizes and Betting Secretariat will launch the country’s new gambling self-exclusion system by the end of this year.
The central self-exclusion system will enable players to exclude themselves from licensed online betting and gaming sites, either from a single operator or from all licensed operators.
As part of the new player protection measures being introduced by the national gambling regulator, operators will also be required to give players the opportunity to set their own time and deposit limits at the time of registration.
The new centralised platform, developed by the Federal Data Processing Service (Serpro), is expected to be available by the end of this year.
Once live, operators will be given 30 days to establish a connection to the central database, confirm the self-exclusion status of users, and process refunds for any outstanding balances in the accounts of excluded players. They will have 90 days in which to implement technical changes related to the time and deposit limits.
“We are moving forward with expanding protection for people, which is the central concern of our Secretariat and Minister Fernando Haddad,” said Regis Dudena, president of the Secretariat of Prizes and Betting at the Ministry of Finance.
“We are giving people the possibility to decide whether they want to temporarily restrict their exposure to betting, in a centralised and secure way, including reducing their access to advertising. This is a step forward that puts Brazil in a leading position in the world in caring for our population.”
Alexandre Amorim, president of Serpro, commented: “The advancement in protecting bettors is a milestone for the maturation of the betting sector in the country, with Serpro’s technology once again guaranteeing transparency, security, and social responsibility, always in accordance with data protection regulations and the principles of digital sovereignty.”
