US District Judge Michael Shipp has dealt another blow to New Jersey’s attempts to launch sports betting by granting a permanent injunction against the proposed legislation, with state lawmakers now set to lodge an appeal against the decision.

Judge Shipp stated in a ruling Friday that the legislation, which would remove language from state law that prohibits betting on sports, was styled as a partial repeal and would have the same effect as a 2012 law to legalise sports betting.
