An amendment to New Zealand’s 1961 Crimes Act to officially criminalise match-fixing has passed into law following its third reading in parliament, with those found guilty of the offence now facing a prison sentence.

The Crimes (Match-Fixing) Amendment Bill classifies match-fixing as a form of deception under section 240 of the Crimes Act, and comes into force on December 15th.
